BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE operations and resource base of the recently-formed Delta Squad were bolstered, thanks to the donation of two vehicles by the TDC Group of Companies and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department.

The Delta Squad is a task force which is comprised of officers from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) and the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF).

During a brief ceremony at TDC’s Automotive Division on Friday (Oct. 21), the vehicles, a Mitsubishi L-300 van and a Toyota Hiace, were officially handed over to head of the RSCNPF, Commissioner Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn.

While the Toyota Hiace was donated by the Customs Department, the government of St. Christopher and Nevis and the TDC collaborated in bearing the cost of the Mitsubishi van, each contributing 50 percent of the cost.

Chairman of the TDC Group of Companies Michael Morton said the group appreciates the results which are being had from the RSCNPF under the command of Commissioner Walwyn.

He said the Group was pleased to tangibly display appreciation to the police for their continued and increased efforts in the fight against crime. And as a further demonstration of the corporate entity’s commitment to aid in the fight against crime “we will, of course, provide continued support in terms of maintenance”.

In accepting the vehicles, Commissioner Walwyn expressed that the Delta Force had been very effective in making the streets of the Federation a safer place.

He however noted that the addition of the two vehicles would widen the Delta Squad’s scope and enhance its efficiency. Thus, he noted, this would assist in creating an environment which would be even more conducive to crime reduction.

The police chief thanked the entities for their role in fighting crime and indicated that he would and could be held accountable for the proper use of the vehicles and training of the officers who would be responsible for operating them.

Minister with responsibility for the RSCNPF and the SKNDF, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas was also present for the handing over.

Commending both the Customs Department and TDC for their gesture, Dr. Douglas said it is a pellucid demonstration of commitment by the corporate community to the war against lawlessness in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Chairman Morton handed over the Mitsubishi to Commissioner Walwyn on behalf of the Group, and the Toyota Hiace was handed over by Comptroller of Customs Rodney Harris on behalf of the Customs Department.
