BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE life of Derrick Gumbs Jr., alias ‘Jake’, was shortened when he was gunned down in cold blood last evening while he was reportedly in the Newtown area.

Moments after the incident occurred, SKNVibes was informed but investigations at that time yielded very little information.

Since then however, SKNVibes has been able to ascertain that the incident occurred at Neverson Street West, Newtown at approximately 9:48 last night.

While information surrounding the incident is still sketchy, SKNVibes understands that a group of individuals were in the said area reportedly “liming” when they were approached by masked gunmen who opened fire.

Gumbs, according to a police source, was the sole casualty. Sources close to SKNVibes indicate that Gumbs, after being shot, may have made his way several yards away from the scene, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The young man is said to be in his early 20s and resided in the Newtown area. He is, according to sources, the sole offspring of his father Derrick Gumbs and mother who has been identified only as “Cassilda”. ~~Adz:Right~~

Gumbs’ death registers the second murder to have taken place in the Federation for the year.  Police sources confirm that three persons are currently in custody “assisting with investigations”.

The first murder took place in Nevis which saw 28-year-old Leon ‘Gravo’ Westerman being gunned down. Westerman was reportedly with a female American friend at Angela’s Bar on Main Street, Charlestown when he was approached and shot by two masked individuals on January 28, 2008.

Having stumbled into the street, he was discovered by a police patrol unit in the vicinity of Island Hopper. He died shortly after at the Alexandra Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

    Investigations continue.
