CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - A Craddock Road resident will have to serve a three-year jail term for stealing assorted items, valued at EC$935, from the Nevis Craft House at Pinneys Industrial Site; an entity that belongs to Nevis Island Administration.

Lincoln Amory, charged with the offence, pleaded not guilty even though a police officer, Sergeant Alonzo Carty, had executed a search of his person and found him wearing some of the stolen necklaces.

Evidence revealed that a security guard with TDC saw Amory shortly after he had stolen the items on October 5, 2007 and was carrying them in a bag slung over his shoulder.  The majority of the items were recovered and produced in court.

Unrepresented by an attorney, Amory evoked much laughter in court during his questioning of Sergeant Carty and also in defence of the charge brought against him.

Addressing the court, Amory said, “He went by me, where my grandmother had a house. Didn’t find anything. Next day he came back with a bag with something…when people see I’ve my stuff they grudge me…they ain’t catch me at the place! I was at the mountain to

    pick mangoes.”

Police Prosecutor Inspector Trevor Mills told the court that Amory had stolen the items, and he was wearing necklaces reportedly stolen from the Nevis Craft House on the day he was arrested and searched.

Earlier, Amory told the court that he had bought the necklaces for US$25. Asked by the Magistrate from where he got the money, Amory replied, “I work all over!” Magistrate Yasmine Clarke sentenced him to three years imprisonment.

In the same court, Mervin Parris was fined EC$2 000 for being in possession of 9.7 gms of cannabis.

~~Adz:Left~~ If Parris does not pay the fine within a given time, he will be imprisoned for three months. The cannabis was found in the left pocket of his pants after a search by police officers on February 8, 2008.

Despite a not guilty plea, Kingsley Tyson of Craddock Road was fined EC$500 for using indecent language. It was revealed in court by a member of the Nevis Air and Sea Port Authority, Erselyn Jones, that Tyson had insulted her while she was on patrol duty on Friday, December 28, 2007.
