Carib workers bask in the glory of their record achievement minutes after being told by their CEO Andrew Sabga that it was their herculean effort that was responsible for the highest ever brewing and bottling production at the Champs Fleurs plant

Shaking off the impact of the strike earlier this year, Carib Brewery announced yesterday that its production last month had exceeded the company's previous record.

The brewery produced 1,050,000 cases of Carib products in November'some 45,000 more than it produced in October 2001 which was the first time it went past one million cases.

Carib chief executive Andrew Sabga praised the herculean efforts of the employees of the brewing and bottling departments.

Asked to outline the factors responsible for the increased production, Sabga pointed first to the efficiencies that the brewing and bottling employees had introduced.

He said that while some capital investment had assisted in the higher productivity, the main factor was the labour efficiency.

Sabga and two managers of the company handed over mementoes and prizes to representatives of the three shifts of brewery and bottling workers.

The brewery was producing at levels that were 15 per cent higher than a year ago, Sabga said.

"We expect that this volume of production will be sustained into 2005," said Sabga.

"I am proud to say that these records put Carib's brewing capacity far beyond any regional brewery and fully on par with the very best breweries of equivalent size around the world," said Sabga.

Carib exports between 30 and 35 per cent of its production to some 33 markets, Sabga said.

Sabga said Carib, as a company, has not and would not make a bid to buy Banks DIH, the Guyanese conglomerate which includes a brewing business.

Carib customers were also given the assurance that there would be no delivery problems during the Christmas and Carnival seasons.
