    Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

(Kingstown, St. Vincent) – PRIME Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves was cleared of rape allegations when a High Court judge dismissed a challenge of the country’s Director of Public Prosecution’s decision to cease proceedings in the matter on Tuesday, March 10th.
DPP Colin Williams reportedly decided against proceeding with a criminal case against the country’s leader due to “lack of evidence”.
P.M. Gonsalves, who is the Political Leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP), had been accused of rape by a female police officer.
The Prime Minister was in Turkey at the time when the ruling came, leading to speculations that a missed Heads of Government meeting and his absence from his country was in some way related to the allegations hanging over his head. ~~Adz:Right~~
Despite calls for his resignation, Gonsalves had previously stated publicly that he would be vindicated of the allegations in full time. He was also quoted as saying that allegations alone did not warrant such drastic action as renouncing his office.
It has been reported that with their challenge dismissed, lawyers for the female police officer making the allegations intend to appeal that ruling.
