Visiting Anguillian delegation applauds Nevis’ infrastructural development

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (MARCH 13, 2008) -- A delegation comprised of government officials from Anguilla traveled to Nevis last week to hold talks with the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) and to visit the geothermal site at Spring Hill. They were briefed by officials from West Indies Power Nevis Limited (WIP) and viewed a slide show related to geothermal energy.
Minister with Communications and Works in the NIA Hon. Carlisle Powell said the Anguilla delegation heard about the newly constructed St. Johns Primary School and requested the consent of the NIA’s consent to tour the school with the expectation of erecting a similar educational facility in Anguilla.
Phase three of the Island Main Road constructed by the Nevis Reformation Party led NIA on assuming office, was another issue discussed. Mr. Powell said “they drove the entire length of the project and were keenly interested with the road’s drainage and how they were rerouted and straightened and the timely manner the roads were completed.”
They also inquired about the Administration’s vision for water development on Nevis. The delegation was introduced to Bedrock Exploration and Development (BEAD) who were at present conducting the deep water drilling project on the island.
Minister Kenneth Harrigan who is responsible for Communication and Utilities on Anguilla said their team of architects, engineers and technical staff remained impressed with the rapid infrastructural development on Nevis.
The Minister of Social Development on Anguilla, Mr. Rawle Hazel opined that the geothermal project would be an exciting and interesting time for Nevis and the region, especially the smaller islands, considering the cost of oil presently. ~~Adz:Right~~
He further added that “the cost of electricity would increase production in a number of areas” and shared sentiments echoed by his colleagues that Nevis was developing by leaps and bounds. He congratulated the NRP Administration for its vision and foresight in moving Nevis forward.
Mr. Hazel remarked the team had a good time in Nevis and expressed gratitude to the NIA for its hospitality.
Minister Powell indicated that discussions with the delegation were extremely useful which set the base for future cooperation between the NIA and Anguilla.
The delegation also comprised of Director of Construction and Housing in the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Utilities. Mr. Warrell Brookes acting Education Planner, Mr. Vernell Richardson Superintendent of Buildings in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Ms. Debra Winter Architect in the Ministry of Infrastructure.
