Teen To Pay EC$2000 for traffic violations

~~Adz:Left~~ CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - NINETEEN-year-old Taj Taylor will have to pay a total of EC$2 000 for traffic offences committed while he was driving back home from a party at 4 a.m. on December 28, 2007.
The fines were imposed by Magistrate Yasmine Clarke who also prohibited Taylor from obtaining or holding a driver’s license for the next six months.
He was ordered to pay the fine on Tuesday after being found guilty of driving recklessly, driving without third party insurance and driving without a driver’s license.
In his submission, Police Prosecutor Trevor Mills told the court that Taylor was driving from Charlestown when he collided with an unidentified stationery object packed at a yard in Morning Star. The Prosecutor said Taylor owns the car he was driving.
Prior to sentencing Taylor, Magistrate Clarke said: “These are very serious offences. You are not covered by any insurance, you were coming from a party, couldn’t you ask friends to give you a ride to the party?”
Her Worship told Taylor if he drives during the prohibited period, he would be sent to prison. “Get others to drive you,” the Magistrate said.
Her Worship explained to Taylor that should he drive without insurance, another person could be injured and without third party insurance the injured person cannot obtain compensation.
He was fined EC$500 for driving “without care and due attention”, EC$1 000 for driving without a driver’s license, and EC$500 for driving without insurance.
“Catch a bus, make sure you obey me and don’t drive. Take care,” was Her Worship’s last words to Taylor.
