PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad --- Young, intelligent and ambitious are but a few of many adjectives which can be used to describe 24 year- old Cayon native Shanna Herbert.

The Kittitian national recently concluded a one year program in Accounting at the Student Accountancy Centre which is located in Chaguanas, Trinidad and during a brief interview with SKNVibes.com Herbert outlined her experience at this institution.

“I studied at the Student Accountancy Centre where I was enrolled in the Professional scheme.  It is with pride that I report that I am now an Affiliate member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

“I was inspired by the goal that I have set for myself in that I always said that I will strive to be more than the ordinary person. I was also inspired by the fact that to make a difference one must be well educated in the career path that you take,” said Herbert.

No stranger to the field, Herbert began her studies in Accounting at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) in St. Kitts where she attained her diploma. She pursued studies in the fields of Accounting, Economics, Management of Business and Computer Science.

Subsequent to this she was employed at local telecommunications company Cable and Wireless as a customer service representative.

“Even though I was great at this task, it was not along my career path.  However, it taught me a lot in terms of interacting with people.  After three (3) months, I went to work with Pannell Kerr Forster, an auditing firm where I was involved in audit assignments and assisting in the preparation of Financial Statements,” she said.

Upon completion of her Accounting program, Herbert now hopes to work actively in the accounting field in order to acquire the necessary skills for membership and further hopes to pursue an MBA qualification, thus enabling her to gain the further knowledge which she feels embodies the profession.  ~~Adz:Right~~

“I believe that with my newly acquired qualification, I can make a difference in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis by ensuring that public companies comply with International Financial reporting Standards. Reliable Financial Statements allow investors, governments, financial institutions and the general public to make more informed investment and economic decisions, which would in turn improve investors’ confidence.  Investors’ confidence is essential for us to attract investment and thus boost the economy.

“I am of the view that each individual should strive to fulfil his potential. A more educated population would mean that individuals can make positive contributions to our community and thus develop our economy.

This is especially true in a small island like ours where Human resource should be the main drive behind our economy,” Herbert advised.
