Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 10, 2004): Managing Director of Terra Forma Developments Ltd. Valmiki Kempadoo expressed satisfaction with the ongoing redevelopment work at Warner Park.
Our programme of work shows this facility being ready for early 2006, he said. We will be fully ready for the mandatory testing that is required prior to hosting the [Cricket] World Cup (CWC). So far CWC is satisfied with the programme of works we have developed for this ground and the progress that were making.
Each CWC venue must be completed to accommodate one year of first class cricket prior to the 2007 event. A project meeting with various parties involved in the construction is held every two weeks to ensure the work remains on schedule and meets quality standards.
Mr. Kempadoo added that contractual arrangements specifically negotiated by the government plays a big part in the process.
The government asked for a truly transparent process, he explained noting that the same process was used in the construction of the Beausejour Cricket Grounds in St. Lucia a few years ago. This allows for maximum involvement from smaller and medium sized local contractors. Were expecting to get people involved in block work (brick laying), painting, plumbing and electrical work.
The Public Works Department also has an important role to play. Permanent Secretary Raphael Archibald revealed that his department is involved in a big way and assists in the engineering and project management fields.
The foundation for several buildings in the cricket section has already been laid.
