BASSETERRE St. Kitts, October 25th 2011 (CUOPM) – The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board has made over EC$20 million available to the St. Kitts and Nevis Development Bank to finance tertiary education for nationals of the twin-island Federation over the past several years.
So says Mr. Chesil Hamilton of Social Security’s Public Relations Department in a recent radio programme “Social Security Five.”
He also disclosed that the over EC$1.5 million has been disbursed under Social Security’s three scholarship programmes which have assisted nearly 200 nationals to complete secondary and tertiary level education.
Mr. Hamilton said Social Security operates three scholarship programmes - The Susanna Lee High School Scholarship, the Robert Manning University Scholarship and the Stanley Amory Technical Scholarship, which have already assisted more than 190 persons to complete High School, College and University.
Mr. Hamilton disclosed that to date, approximately one and a half million dollars has been invested in this programme and “our graduates continue to make their mark on and in our society.”
He said in addition to these scholarships, over EC$22 million dollars has been made directly to the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis to finance tertiary education of nationals.
