Primary School Football league off to robust start

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE National Bank Primary School Seven-A-Side Football Competition kicked off on Friday (Oct. 21) with the St. Pauls, Cayon, Beach Allen and Dean Glasford Primary Schools drawing first blood in their respective matches.

     

    The 17 schools competing in the league have been grouped into two zones.

     

    The St. Pauls, Estridge, Tucker Clarke, Cayon, Bronte Welsh, Sandy Point, Irishtown and Saddlers Primary Schools have been placed in Zone One, while Zone Two comprises the Dr. William Connor, Beach Allen, Violet Petty, Dean Glasford, Tyrell Williams, Dieppe Bay, Newton Ground, Edgar T. Morris and Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary Schools.

     

    Eight matches were played October 21; four among Zone One teams at Warner Park and the other four among Zone Two teams at the Newtown Playfield.

     

    In a game that demonstrated what made them defending champions, St. Pauls Primary trounced Saddlers Primary seven goals to one. Three goals each came off the boots of Kelijah Hazel and Malik Clarke, and the other one was by Patrez Williams, while Ethan Carey scored Saddlers Primary lone goal.

     

    Cayon Primary triumphed over Irishtown Primary 5-nil, and the scorers were Deonte Liburd, Mervin Connor and Deandre Taylor.

     

    Tucker Clarke defeated Bronte Welsh 5-nil with the goals being netted by Maconen Gumbs (two goals), Okeefe Battice, Jacquan Hendrickson and Romarno Gumbs.

     

    The Estridge dominated the Sandy Point School, winning the game 4-nil. Shamal Henry and Kadeem Wattley netted the goals.

     

    Dylon Burton, Kennty Nisbett and Rohan Joseph led Beach Allen to a 6-2 victory over Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary. Quanaki Phillip scored both goals for the losing team.

     

    Violet Petty defeated Dieppe Bay with a lone goal coming off the boot of Elijah Harris.

     

    Defeat visited the Newton Ground when Jevron Trotman and Cordell James of Dean Glasford delivered one goal each to the back of their nets.

     

    The match scheduled to take place between Dr. William-Connor and Edgar T. Morris was won by the former, by default.

     

    According to the rules and regulations of the league, following the round-robin process, the top four teams would advance to the quarter finals where each one would play two matches per week.

     

    Four points will be gained for every match won and two points for a drawn match. Should a team lose a match but scores one or more goals, that team will be award with a goal, it will be awarded one point.

     

    Matches continue tomorrow (Oct. 26) at the same venues.
