BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE flow of traffic along Cayon Street was temporarily impeded yesterday afternoon after a male pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle.

Dozens quickly flocked to the scene after the incident occurred; some having heard the sound produced by the collision and others who just happened to be passing.

The initial report received by SKNVibes was that a child was “knocked down” on Cayon Street in the vicinity of “Karrons Fabric & Notions”, but investigations revealed that the victim was an adult male, whose age has not been revealed.

On arrival at the scene of the incident, SKNVibes found an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Unit strapping the accident victim, who has been identified as Alban Harris of Trafalgar Village, to a stretcher. His neck was braced and head banded.

Within minutes of its arrival, the EMS Unit transported the injured man to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where the extent of injuries if any, was ascertained.

SKNVibes contacted the police who indicated that the incident occurred at about 5:30 in the afternoon and involved Harris and motorcar PA3333, owned and driven by Karen Phillip-Percival of Buckleys Site.

It is understood that when the incident occurred, the motorcar was travelling in a westerly direction along Cayon Street and Harris was traveling on foot in the same direction but on the seaward side of the road. Police sources say that he was struck by the vehicle and fell into the nearby drain.
This media house spoke with an individual who, although did not witness the incident, explained that they heard the sound produced by the impact and also the resulting commotion.

Harris, according to information, underwent a series of tests including a CAT scan, all of which revealed no injuries. Harris, who is still warded at the JNF General Hospital, is said to be in a stable condition and would be undergoing further tests to ensure no injury was sustained.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a traffic accident which took place on Friday in the St. Peters Parish.

The incident “occurred…in the vicinity of the Airport Runway leading from Stapleton Village. Investigations revealed that motor van PA3264 owned by Sunrise Bakery and driven by Van-Devere Williams of Hermitage, Cayon, overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle was extensively damaged and Williams sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital. Investigations are still ongoing,” a police press release informs.
