Passenger Facility Charge(PFC) to be Implemented

    ~~Adz:Left~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts - March 19, 2008-
Effective Tuesday, April 1, 2008, a Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) will be implemented in St. Kitts and Nevis.  This ten US dollar charge (US$10) will be paid by passengers accessing the two airport facilities, and it would apply to all airline tickets which are purchased on or after the implementation date. The Passenger Facility Charge will be collected by the ticketing air carrier or its agent.

Children under the age of two years at the time of travel will be exempt from paying the Passenger Facility Charge.  Other exempt passengers are members of the crew of an arriving aircraft; positioning air crew members; persons taking part in a training flights; passengers travelling on domestics flights from St. Kitts to Nevis and vice versa; persons traveling on military, scientific or meteorological flights to whom no tickets were issued; and holders of diplomatic passports.

At the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport, the Passenger Facility Charge will assist in financing long term strategic programmes, and enhancing facilities for all Airport users.  These include providing and servicing state of the art equipment like X-ray machines, expanding the Terminal Building and upgrading air navigational and ground handling equipment.

The PFC is not unique to St. Kitts and Nevis.  It has already been implemented in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Barbados, Antigua and St. Maarten.  As tourism is the mainstay of our economy and given the competitiveness of the industry, it is important that Airports in our Federation offer the highest quality of service possible.
