Unscheduled Ship Berths at Porte Zante

    ~~Adz:Left~~Basseterre, St. Kitts - March 19, 2008
    -  Our economy has benefited from the unscheduled arrival of The Regatta bringing 671 passengers.  The vessel arrived at the Pilot Station this morning at 6:45 and was successfully berthed by one of SCASPA’s  pilots with the assistance of the Berthing Officer.

This vessel was initially scheduled to visit Virgin Gorda where it would have anchored and tendered.  However, there were some ground swells, making it unsafe for the vessel to tender.  SCASPA’s Marine Department was contacted yesterday and indicated to the agents that we would be able to accommodate the ship.  The Regatta is expected to spend about seven hours, as it is scheduled to depart at 2 o’clock this afternoon.

This is not the first time that SCASPA has accommodated an unscheduled vessel. As discussed in our last press conference, there are occasions when for one reason or another, vessels have to abort berthing in other ports and they come to St. Kitts.

We at SCASPA are happy that to assist The Regatta and their agents, but are particularly pleased that our economy will benefit from the unexpected passenger arrivals.
