Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 04, 2004): Passengers of Caribbean Star and Caribbean Sun Airlines can gain some insight into the life of a prominent Kittitian.

Kim Collins, the top ranked IAAF 100 metre sprinter is featured in a special interview dubbed 'An Afternoon Conversation with Kim Collins' with contributing writer Jason Inanga. The article is published in 'Altitude', the airlines in-flight magazine.

Issues addressed by the sprint champion in the quarterly magazine include a brief history of his career which began at primary school and progressed to college level training at Texas Christian University in the United States.

Collins expressed his desire to have persons follow in his footsteps.

"I want to speak to our young folk in the Caribbean and let them know that athletics and sports can take you places," he stressed. "We all need to take our education more seriously in the Caribbean, so we can benefit from opportunities abroad."

Hard work and discipline were factors that Collins mentioned repeatedly, noting that persons must be dedicated to achieve success.

The sprint king revealed that he has confidence in the talent of local athletes who he said have the potential to become bonafide superstars in the international arena.

This statement is in line with the policies of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. The minister with responsibility for youth and sport Hon. Jacinth Henry-Martin explained that the developmental programmes of the Department of Sport continue to offer opportunities to enhance the skills of local athletes, particularly student athletes. The programmes also stress an equal amount of effort to be exerted in academics.

Government also plans to transform Warner Park (the main sporting facility on island) into a world-class facility. The project calls for a
state-of-the-art cricket facility as well as the construction of a football and a 400-metre track and field arena. A new tennis centre will also be constructed at Bird Rock.

Caribbean Star's magazine also features pictures of the victory parade held in St. Kitts upon Collins return from the IAAF championships held in Paris last year, where he captured gold.

An article on the inaugural Caribbean Star Vacations Crystal Star Awards Gala which took place in St. Kitts is also included in issue 11 of 'Altitude.' St. Kitts was presented with the prestigious award for being the 'Star Destination of the Year.'
