    Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LANDLESS citizens in St. Kitts will soon have the opportunity to own a piece of the rock.

Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Denzil Douglas announced at his Monthly Press Conference on Tuesday that nationals who are landless since his Government launched the Special Land Initiatives in 2007, a number of specific areas were identified for allocation.

“I want to remind you that we did have a number of specific areas identified for land allocation among our own population and we are now about to launch a number of new sites with regards to the availability to residential lots.”

He said the Government is currently involved in having sub-divisions being done in the Garveys Estate area, where some 14.3 acres would be providing 81 house lots.

The Prime Minister also announced that they are also in the process of doing sub-divisions to Newton Ground and Stone Fort, as well as in the Molineux and the St. Peters areas. He further announced that 208 lots would be up for grabs in Cayon, which involved an additional 27.79 acres of land.

“I should say that to date we have had a little over 300 house lots that have already been allocated since we launched the project in Sandy Point, in St. Pauls, in Taylors, in Shadwell East and also in Molineux. At that time we would have just about 600 house lots to be distributed from those areas.”    ~~Adz:Right~~

He declared that that very shortly larger lots for residential purposes in the Ogees area would be available for distribution and “I should let you know that more information would be made available on this particular site as soon as the appropriate sub-division and plans have been made in terms of the input of the necessary basic infrastructure for this particular area”.

Dr. Douglas announced that the Ministry of Sustainable Development reported that some 280 lots have already received land under the programme, which is in addition to the thousands of persons who had previously received land under various land initiatives since the Labour Party Government was elected.

“This,” he stressed, “is by no means the number of persons who will be obtaining land under the Special Land Initiative. However, since the government has, as you know, set aside additional acres to distribute specifically under this particular programme, applications are being both received and processed, and will continue to be until all of the designated lots have new owners.”
