BASSETERRE St. Kitts – IT was a short afternoon presentation at Kajola Kristada Ltd. that was filled with laughter and excitement, but most importantly, a very important message – safety comes first.

This presentation was done yesterday (Oct. 26), at the company, featuring a number of its employees entertaining the others through song, drama, and poem recitals all about safety.

The presentation comes as part of the Safety Week of activities that Kajola holds annually.

One of the employees, Dukakis Otto, performed an original poem entitled Safety, which spoke about the importance of wearing the safety gear at Kajola, and what can happen if this is not done.

Octavia Richards, another employee, recited another original poem emphasizing the importance of safety in the workplace, and accentuated the fact that it takes the participation of everyone to have a truly safe environment.

“The safety of one is the safety of all,” one line said.

She also highlighted that one should not wait on the other to start taking safety into consideration - “If it’s going to happen, it’s up to me,” she said.

There was a modelling segment of the presentation where some of the male employees strutted across the stage demonstrating the Kajola safety gear and the proper way in which they should be worn.

A number of the employees performed a dramatization depicting an employee being injured on the job as a result of not wearing the proper safety gear. The employee gets seriously injured which left management in frenzy and the wounded employee along with others saying the usual ‘shoulda, coulda, woulda’, after a mishap has occurred.

The moral of the play was that it is better to be safe than sorry.

Master of Ceremony, Kevin Taylor kept the crowd rolling in laughter between each presentation.

Sherlon Wigley, another employee, brought down the curtains with a calypso performance on Kajola’s Policy on Safety. The employees cheered after each line in the song, and sang along with the chorus, “Kajola Policy, that would be safety. Safety for you and me, to go back home to our family.”

The fun continues today with a Health Walk this afternoon (Oct. 27). The Kajola employees will walk on the Kim Collins Highway to the Airport roundabout and return to the plant via the same route.
