Molineux Track and Field icon inducted into DSU Athletic Hall of Fame

    BASSETERRRE St. Kitts, October 27th 2011 - Kittitian, Jessica Gilbert-Wilson was among 12 athletes and one sports administrator who were inducted into the Delaware State University Athletic Hall of Fame in a moving investiture ceremony at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center, Dover, Delaware on Friday October 7, 2011.

     

    Gilbert-Wilson who hails from Molineux, St. Kitts was nominated for the DSU’s Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of her achievements in Track and Field during her record-setting career there as a student-athlete.

     

    Her DSU Coach, Duane Henry, described her as a star athlete while speaking of how she excelled in both the triple jump and javelin. In 2001, Gilbert-Wilson captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Triple Jump Championship.

     

    A Delaware State University website further states that “Gilbert-Wilson is DSU’s all-time record holder in the indoor triple jump. A MEAC champion and NCAA championship qualifier, she was also a member of the [DSU] Hornets’ 2002 and 2003 MEAC women’s indoor title teams.”

     

    Gilbert-Wilson is a 1994 graduate of the Cayon High School and a distinguished product of the Molineux Primary (now Obadiah Williams Primary) School, class of 1989.  She competed in many sporting meets in and for her schools. There she excelled in the 100M, 200M, 400M events, and later in the shot put, long jump, high jump and discus events. Before leaving the federation for higher education, Gilbert-Wilson was also a member of Pace Setters Track Club.

     

    She worked at St. Kitts-Nevis Social Security Board before leaving for university on a track and field scholarship.

     

    Jessica Gilbert-Wilson is the daughter of Mrs. Kemelita Gilbert-Henry and Mr. Joseph Henry (better known as Bertil) of Molineux and granddaughter of St. Kitts’ cricket legend, Mr. Edgar Gilbert.

     

    Glibert-Wilson is a certified International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Track and Field Coach at Level 1 and holds a Masters in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Finance and Banking, both from the Delaware State University. She currently resides in the Dover, Delaware with her husband Terrence and daughter Amya.
