    KINGSTON Jamaica, October 27th 2011 - The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) has sent a message of congratulations to the new Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, on his designation, in a message from the Chair of the Permanent Council and Permanent Representative of Guyana, Bayney Karran.

     

    Ambassador Karran said Andrew Holness assumed office last Sunday, October 23, and added that “with this smooth transition of leadership in government, Jamaica has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to democracy.” Likewise, he extended Council’s “fullest cooperation and best wishes” to the new Jamaican Prime Minister.

     

    The Alternative Representative of Jamaica, , Lylen Ann Scott, thanked the Council for its congratulatory message and recalled that, as stated by the Governor General of her country, “the swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister represents a significant moment in our democracy, as it was a smooth and peaceful transition of leadership.”

     

    The representative of Jamaica explained that the new cabinet members have been confirmed and asserted that the messages sent by the Council and by Secretary General Insulza will be transmitted to the competent authorities. She also mentioned that Holness is the youngest Prime Minister in the history of Jamaica.
