Press Release (SKNIS)

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 1st 2011 (SKNIS) - The UNESCO St. Kitts and Nevis National Commission is organizing a series of public lectures under the theme, “Reconciling the Past to Move Into the Future with Confidence.”

The lecture series is part of the activities falling under the UNESCO Slave Route Project and is held in recognition of the Year of the People of African Descent.

The first in the series will be held at, and with the support of, the UWI Open Campus on Thursday, November 3, starting at 9:00 a.m., for public and private high school students of the 4th and 5th Forms. The former distinguished Governor Sir Probyn Innis has been invited to make the presentation.

A follow-up evening lecture at the same venue, the UWI Open Campus, is provided for citizens and residents of the Federation, and takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 8.  Lectures in Nevis would begin on November 30, targeting high school students, and the final lecture in the series occurs in February 2012 during Black History Month. Special presentations are being planned, also, for the primary schools.

The lecture series has been organized as part of the process of providing information, facilitating discussion and for helping to build greater levels of awareness and confidence among all age groups of people of African Descent in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Lecturers and other persons involved in areas such as history and heritage have been invited to make presentations during the lecture series.
