BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESPITE the tremendous turnout at the ‘Stitch in Time Concert’ on Friday (Oct. 28), many patrons were dissatisfied with the venue and other administrative hiccups of this much-anticipated event.
Carnival City was filled to capacity as the attendees waved, rocked and sang along to songs belted out by popular female Jamaican artistes Lady Saw, Cecile, Tanya Stevens, Queen Ifrica, and Alaine.
A number of local artistes also performed at the event.
Over the years, Carnival City has been the home for numerous shows and events. This venue has proven on many occasions to be too small to accommodate the large crowds that had attended some of the more exciting events.
Hence, the birth of ‘Sugar Mill’, which is located at the Warner Park Stadium where carnival shows and events were held for the 2010/2011 St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival celebration.
Therefore, with all indicators depicting a sold-out crowd, the promoters, Panda Entertainment Management, should have sought the Sugar Mill instead of Carnival City.
Contrary to this, Stitch In Time, a show that has been craved for by many and widely advertised for some two months, was held at a venue that provided little or no space for patrons to have free movement.
Was the venue of this show suitable?
No! As lines flooded all the way from the main entrance to the tennis court, patrons expressed that the show was “too big” an event to be held at such a small venue.
Moreover, administrative hiccups came into effect when bars ran out of bottled water; the highly-demanded thirst quencher and drinking cups.
However, though the event experienced hiccups and venue complaints, it was one of the best shows witnessed in the Federation in recent times.
