Murder or accident?
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ST. MAARTEN resident – believed to be a national of St. Kitts Nevis - Latoya Bryson, met her untimely demise earlier this week, which has left law-enforcement officers there conducting investigations into the incident.
According to www.sxmislandtime.com, the 28-year-old was found dead in the bathroom of her Middle Region home sometime after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. And according to one school of thought, electrocution may have been the cause of her death. However, there are others who hold opposing views.
“According to Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos, the deceased appears to have died because of electrocution and that the body has been seized for further investigation. Mos also confirmed that no one was arrested but that her friend has been questioned.
“One source close to the investigation stated that it is believed that she may have slipped and fell causing her death. Some of the family members stated that their knowledge of the friend gives them no reason to believe that he would be capable of causing any harm to Latoya,” www.sxmislandtime.com reported.
A report carried in The Daily Herald, however, catalogues the feelings of relatives of the deceased, who have indicated their belief that she may have been murdered by her boyfriend.
The November 1 report carried by that media house indicated that the man – said to be a Guyanese – was taken to the police station for a statement.
In a subsequent report carried by The Daily Herald, Diana Bryson, sister of the deceased, alleges that her sister suffered through physical abuse at the hands of her boyfriend.
“She said her sister had filed official complaints against her boyfriend for physical abuse more than once. Additionally, although she was living with him at the time of her death, Latoya had confided to friends and family that she had had enough and was going to finally leave. She also told friends that her boyfriend had threatened to kill her.”
Additionally, the media house informs that the authorities, who have concluded that “all signs pointed to electrocution from a beauty appliance”, would not be performing an autopsy on Bryson’s body. However, her remains will be turned over to family members, who are free to have an autopsy conducted.
Although the case is still open, Bryson’s family have called for a full-scale investigation into their relative’s death and they stand firm on their view that her boyfriend played a part in her demise.
Bryson is said to have hailed from the Keys Village, St. Kitts area.
