April Assizes kicks off in Nevis

    One murder case on docket

     

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE April 2011 Criminal Assizes got underway earlier today (Nov. 7) at the Charlestown Circuit Court with one individual pleading guilty to his charge and trial dates being assigned to other cases.

     

    SKNVibes understands that the docket for the assizes comprises two cases traversed from the April 2011 Criminal Assizes and five new ones.

     

    The accused individuals made an appearance before His Lordship Justice Albert Redhead this morning for their arraignment.

     

    The traversed cases are those of Sandy Nisbett who is charged with committing his uncle’s 2008 murder, and Valon Glasgow who is charged with unlawful carnal knowledge.

     

    Alton Brown, charged with causing death by dangerous driving, pleaded not guilty to the charge and his matter was adjourned until sometime during the upcoming week.

     

    Alester Isaac pleaded not guilty to the robbery charge brought against him and his case was also adjourned until next week.

     

    To stand trial for store breaking and larceny are Ronnel Carmichael and Cameron Freeman.

     

    The two men however maintained their innocence of the charge during arraignment and were advised that their matter has been adjourned until tomorrow (Nov. 8)

     

    Scheduled for next Monday (Nov. 14), is a robbery case which is being mounted against Dwight Richards of Stoney Grove, Nevis.

     

    The only person to have pleaded guilty during this morning’s proceedings is Adrian Springate, who was charged with one count each of larceny, receiving and building breaking and larceny.

     

    He admitted guilt of the receiving offence and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until November 11 when he is scheduled to be sentenced.
