BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 11th 2011 - Aspiring athlete Olujede Avaya Kiele Bridgewater will receive the opportunity of a lifetime to play a significant role in the islands’ staging of the Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly, now underway at the St. Kitts Marriott in Frigate Bay.
The nine (9) year old student of the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School, who captured the most outstanding athlete in the 2009-2011 RAMS Group of Companies Primary School Track and Field Championships, will present the envelope with the official results bearing the name of the host country for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Bridgewater’s role will once again put the spotlight on the Federation’s prowess in the athletic arena. The young starlet will also make history when she takes center stage to bring the curtains down on the august gathering.
The event is already being described by many Sports pundits as a keen and closely contested process that is building excitement amongst the various delegations, especially those representatives from Hambantota in Sri Lanka and The Gold Coast in Australia.
The CGFA is responsible for selecting the host city for the Commonwealth Games from some seventy-one (71) member Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs). To guide the Candidate Cities through the bidding process the CGF developed a Candidate City Manual. The manual in conjunction with other CGF documents establishes the legal, financial and technical obligations of each candidate city (and host city) and also outlines the procedures, rules and timelines for bidding.
Each CGA is entitled to one vote. After the votes have been cast and verified by independent scrutiners, the President of the Commonwealth Games Federation announces the decision to the Assembly and the people of the Commonwealth.
