SKN tackle Canada tonight in a must win battle

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH today declared “Wear Red Day” in support of the local World Cup Football team and with football fans in high spirits, Warner Park will come alive this evening (Nov. 11) when St. Kitts-Nevis will face off with Canada in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers.

St. Kitts-Nevis have so far played four of its six games. Two each were played against St. Lucia and Puerto Rico, which resulted in two wins and two draw matches.

These matches constitute part of the second round of the qualifier and in order for team St. Kitts-Nevis to advance to the next round of the competition it must win this evening’s match and also that which will be played in Canada on November 15, 2011.

With St. Kitts-Nevis ranked 109 and Canada 83, as per the FIFA World Ranking, the on-field battle scheduled to commence promptly at 8:00 p.m. is expected to be a very interesting one.

Last Friday, as part of the lead-up to this evening’s match, the St. Kitts-Nevis team paraded through the streets of Basseterre accompanied by part of a string band.

SKNVibes understands that this was an informal reintroduction of the team to the public, which gave persons an opportunity to familiarise themselves with its players.

The Canadian team arrived in St. Kitts on Wednesday (Nov. 9) afternoon and has promised a fight to the finish. Team St. Kitts-Nevis has however indicated that it would be throwing an offensive element into its game plan while maintaining its usual defensive strategy.

So, who will win this evening’s march? Yes, we all would hope for whatever team we are rooting for to be victorious, but the truth is, only time will tell.

Notwithstanding, the event promises to be entertaining one, to say the least, with the pulsating and rhythmic sounds of an iron band doing its part to cheer the teams on during the match.

After the conclusion of the 90th minute, patrons will be further entertained by the Nu Vybes Band International, also known as the Sugar Band.
