~~Adz:Right~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WHILE a female student of the Washington Archibald High School was convicted of stealing a sum of money from a teacher at the said institution, her mother is left to foot the bill.

The student, who is reportedly of Herbert Street, Newtown, appeared before the District “A” Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of “larceny” and, as punishment for her wrong doing, she was “ordered to complete 40 hours of community service under the supervision of the Probation Department,” a police press release informs.

A one-month custodial sentence would be imposed if the juvenile fails to comply with the court order .

“On Friday 4th April 2008, a teacher at the Washington Archibald High School discovered that $325.00 that was left in her bag in the classroom was missing. Subsequent investigation by the Police revealed that the money was taken by the juvenile when the teacher was not in the room,” police inform.

SKNVibes has learnt that the student was searched and the money was found on her person.
The child’s mother was ordered by the court to pay $325 on or before Friday, April 11, 2008 or she would be forced to serve one month in prison.

In other news, Wellington Road resident Andrew Hodge appeared before the Basseterre Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of “possession of cannabis”. He was convicted and fined $800 which is to be paid within two months or, in default, he would be required to serve one month in prison. The offence occurred on Monday, December 31, 2007.

Having being convicted of “battery” and “assault” against Tudi Dehaan, Vince Bridgewater of Neverson Street East was placed on a two-year bond to be of good behavior and to keep the peace and was also ordered to stay at no less than 100 feet from the victual complainant in the case.

Failure to comply with these stipulations would result in Bridgewater having to either pay a $1 000 fine or serve a one-month prison sentence.
