KINGSTON, Jamaica - THE Dancehall genre has witnessed the saying, “absence makes the heart grow fonder” as the ‘world boss’ Vybz Kartel is still held in police custody but continues to make an impressive impact on dancehall music.
The most controversial artist in the dancehall arena, ‘Vybz Kartel’ whose real name is Adidjah Palmer has fired up the air waves with recent songs such as “All of a sudden,’ ‘British love,’ ‘Freaky gal’ and ‘Ride in’ and has developed a large fan base over the years.
However, recently, fans and DJ’s alike have become somewhat saddened over his absence due to his being held in police custody.
Through sayings such as, ‘Free di world boss,’ fans express their discomfort of Kartel’s absence as well as through pictures, and profile statuses.
In October the ‘Dancehall hero’ was charged in connection with two murders in Jamaica.
His first murder charge related to a body identified as Jamaican businessman ‘Bossie’ discovered in an area that may be connected to Palme (Kartel). Later on that month, another charge came about when Palmer and another man were suspects in the murder of Clive Williams who was murdered in St. Andrew Jamaica.
Thus, Vybz Kartel has not gained the opportunity to release any songs since his holding.
His latest single, ‘Bike Back’ has been circulating the airwaves and has been doing well to date. However, many are becoming tiresome with the songs Kartel left behind and are yearning for a fresh set.
Some refer to Palmer’s holding as an opportunity for other dancehall artist to become more recognized, nonetheless being described as a great lyricist; his legacy is most likely to remain dominant in the dancehall arena.
Adidjah ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer along with his legal team is expecting to appear in court sometime soon.
