Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, November 14th, 2011 -- London’s hotly-tipped and highly respected alternative soul band Smoke Feathers has been confirmed to play several gigs this November in the British Virgin Islands.

The nine-day Liberation promotional tour kicks off on Saturday, November 19 at Captain Mulligan’s, Nanny Cay, Tortola.

The British act, championed passionately by top DJs on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio London, will also perform at Leverick Bay Resort and Marina in Virgin Gorda and charity fundraisers for Sailability and the BVI Special Olympic.

“We saw Smoke Feathers in concert in London this year and were blown away by their energy and effortless blend of rock, pop and reggae genres. After months of communication, we finally secured November dates for them to visit the BVI. We are excited to play host and can guarantee exhilarating performances from this band.”

The visit to the territory is to promote their studio album, also called Liberation, which will be released worldwide in early 2012.

“Chased by major record labels Universal, Island and EMI and once managed by one of America’s top record producers Billy Mann, Smoke Feathers release their debut album Liberation, inspired by Matt’s experiences as an award-winning journalist in the Caribbean, on British cult label Delta Creek Records in 2012,” states the band’s biography.

Top London agency GreenGab and radio pluggers Hear This, companies who manage many of Britain’s greatest musical talents, handles the band’s public profile.

The three-member band, known for their rock, pop and reggae fusion and playing hard on stage, enjoyed a great 12 months recording and gigging across the UK.

They performed a mammoth six times over three days at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival - wowing crowds at one of the world’s biggest arts festivals as they warmed up fans for global superstars such as Beyonce, Coldplay and U2.

Smoke Feathers has toured the UK three times with Atlantic Records reggae star Natty, the ElectroAcoustic Club and the British Arts Council, established a dedicated following on the internet and across Europe, and have also had the privilege of supporting Bob Marley’s guitarist Junior Marvin, New Orleans psychedelic funk master Dr John and top 1970s American songwriter Don McLean.

While here, they will also share a stage with UB40’s Ali Campbell on Saturday, November 26 at the National Parks Trust 50th Anniversary concert in the Queen Elizabeth Park, Road Town, Tortola.

“This is our first visit to the British Virgin Islands and were are excited. It's an honour to be invited to play at the Sailability and BVI Special Olympic fundraisers and National Park Trust’ anniversary concert which celebrates the British Virgin Islands’ commitment to preservation. We hope to bring a little flavour of London, so get ready for a good time" says lead singer Matt Falloon.

Accompanying them this trip is supporting act John Blood, a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter and legend on the underground UK world music scene. Inspired by formative years split between Trinidad and London, John's style fuses calypso, reggae, dub, West African music and soul with lyrics of conscience and insight.

“Looking forward to playing some music and bringing a good vibe to the people of the BVI,' shares John Blood.
John Blood too has toured with UK reggae sensation Natty, collaborated with top musicians and poets from Brazil, France, the Caribbean and beyond and has just finished work on his latest EP, which features a tribute to Haiti and performances from some of London's finest percussionists.

“We wanted to mix things up. So when we heard John Blood was also available we knew we had to get him on this trip. These guys are incredible musicians and performers so expect an exciting nine days.”

The BVI visit wraps up on November 27 with an all-day beach party at Big D’s, Josiah’s Bay, Tortola. “We hope it will be the first of many such ventures, strengthening artistic ties with Britain and beyond, and broadening the appeal of the BVI as a tourist destination”

Smoke Feather’s album will be launched across the Caribbean with official events in Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados in 2012.
