    SKLEC apologises to affected customers

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd (SKLEC) has informed that mid-afternoon power outage experienced in some parts of St. Kitts yesterday (Nov. 16) was due to a vehicular accident.

Through Disseminateit.com, SKLEC issued a press release giving details of the incident leading to the electricity interruption.

“At approximately 2:15pm, a truck impacted a guy-wire of an overhead power pole in the vicinity of Basseterre causing the conductors to short-circuit and three fuses to blow out.

“Consequently, the first stage of protection at the Needsmust Power Station, operating normally, tripped on under-frequency disconnecting the Canada Feeder and at least three (Port Zante, Industrial Site, Bayford's) other key supply lines.”

According to the release, no one was injured in the accident; however, in an attempt to speedily resolve the issue “emergency crews (were) on the scene to ascertain the damage, replace the fuses and restore service. This unplanned outage (was) expected to disrupt electricity services to the Canada Feeder until approximately 16:00 hrs”.

The release further indicates that the electricity supply was restored to the Port Zante, Industrial Site and Bayford’s areas within 15 minutes of the interruption.

SKLEC has also issued apologies to its affected customers for the break in service.

“The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited regrets any inconvenience which this unplanned interruption in electricity supply may have caused.”
