Dieppe Bay residents are important in police fight against crime…says COP

Dieppe Bay Police Station finally open!

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the recent opening of their brand spanking new police station, the people of Dieppe Bay and the surrounding communities were given promises of renewed commitment by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).

The opening of the two-storey structure took place earlier this week (Nov. 14) with an official ceremony attended by Prime Minister and Constituency Representative for the area, Dr. Denzil L. Douglas; Mexican Ambassador to St. Kitts-Nevis His Excellency Gerardo Lozano; members of the Police High Command including Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn; and Cabinet Ministers.

The 10 000-square-foot multipurpose structure is designed to house units from the RSCNPF, the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Department and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department.

The top floor of the Mexican government-funded structure contains separate barracks for males and females and living amenities, while the bottom floor houses office spaces including an interview room and a communication office.

COP’s admonition to Dieppe Bay residents

Commissioner Walwyn, in delivering brief remarks at the opening ceremony, said, “As the Commissioner of Police, I want the residents of Dieppe Bay to know that we are here to serve you and will be held accountable to you in our pledge to prevent crime, to pursue and bring to justice those who break the law, to keep the peace, to protect, help and reassure residents and visitors and to be seen to do all this with integrity and impartiality.”

The COP explained that the people of Dieppe Bay are “very important in our fight against crime and our mission to retake the streets of the Federation.”

He reminded them of their responsibility to assist in the fight by reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities.

“Thinking that crime can only happen to someone else makes you the perfect victim that criminals are looking for. As citizens we all have the duty to report crime, we all have the duty to be our brother’s keeper. With the help of everyday citizens like you, when you see something please say something. This is the only way we can make a difference as a community as we retake our streets.”

    Background information

In September 2006 the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Timothy Harris, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mexican government for the financing of the construction of the Dieppe Bay Police Station.

Five years after the signing ceremony and four years after construction of the building commenced, it has been completed and officially opened for operations.

The newly-erected facility replaces that which stood until 1998 when it was destroyed by Hurricane George.

SKNVibes understands that after that storm ravaged the building, the officers who were stationed there were moved to the St. Pauls Police Station, which meant that the Dieppe Bay to Harris’ district and the St. Pauls district were being policed from St. Pauls.
