BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DOMESTIC consumers of electricity in St. Kitts will soon be paying less on their bills following a reduction of the Fuel Surcharge levy.

In an exclusive interview with Dwyer Edmeade, Systems Analyst of the St. Kitts Electricity Department, SKNVibes learnt that the 50 percent cap on Fuel Surcharge announced by Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas during his 2008 Budget Address on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, would be implemented in two weeks time.

Edmeade revealed the actual bills that would be sent out in the interim will however be identical to the ones received last month, but when consumers go to pay their bills the cashiers would use a separate SQL Database to calculate Fuel Surcharge at 50 percent of the usage for each customer.

This Database was built by the Information Technology Section of the St. Kitts Electricity Department.   ~~Adz:Right~~

The current billing software programme was designed by Affiliated Computer Services in Kentucky, USA, and Edmeade revealed that progress is being made to re-programme the existing software to take into account the 50 percent Fuel Surcharge cap for domestic consumers.

Edmeade indicated that he was hopeful that all changes and security features would be made/added to the existing billing programme software within the next three months.

Essentially, the 50 percent Fuel Surcharge cap will be implemented within the next two weeks, but it will not be reflected on present billing stationery until the upgraded Electricity Billing Software is uploaded to the St. Kitts Electricity Department servers.
