Basseterre, St. Kitts Sylvester Hodge (King Socrates) originally of Sandy Point, was adjudged winner of the St. Kitts 2004 2005 National Carnival Calypso King competition held at Carnival Village, Basseterre as apart of the festivities for St. Kitts Carnival.

Socrates captured his fourth Calypso crown by defeating a final field of seven other calypsonians including last years king, King Ayatollah in the two round competition.

He sang two songs off his latest album, None Better, including Perilous Times and No ting, No Ring.

First runner-up position went to King Ayatollah, followed by the lone female singer Princess P who was making her mark in the Calypso finals, placed 2nd runner up while 3rd runner up position went to King Pungwa.

The other calypsonians competing were Ritchie Buntin, King Phonsie, Lord Anything and Navigator.

The songs were laced with the usual social commentary, humorous political satire and tales of everyday challenges of life in St. Kitts. Each performer was able to give a good account of themselves in front of a packed and appreciative calypso knowledgeable audience.

The contest was so keenly contested that even though most people did not agree with the judges decision, there is not a clear consensus as to who should have placed in the competition.

Present at the calypso finals was The Nation of Islam Leader Reverend Louis Farrakhan who is in St. Kitts as the guest speaker for the fourth annual Prime Ministers New Year's Gala at the Royal St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort on Sunday 2nd January 2005.  Reverend Farrakhan, whose mother is originally from St. Kitts, is making his second visit to St. Kitts for the year.
