CRVs head-on collision leaves one with minor bruises

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

FRIGATE BAY, St. Kitts – THE wearing of seatbelts and the deployment of airbags may have been the determinants in two drivers escaping serious injuries during a head-on collision of two Honda CRVs that occurred last night (Nov. 22) on the Frigate Bay Road.

Last night, at approximately 7:35, this media house was informed that a traffic accident involving a vehicle driven by former National Security Minister Dwyer Astaphan had occurred in Frigate Bay.

However, on arrival, it was revealed that the vehicle (P9129) is owned by Astaphan but was driven by his son Jesse of Seabreeze Crescent in Frigate Bay.

According to Inspector Cromwell Henry, the Officer-in-Charge of the Traffic Department, the accident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on the main road in Frigate Bay and involved Astaphan’s vehicle and motor jeep P9493 driven by Sifroy Phillip of Keys Village.

“Investigations revealed that P9493 was travelling towards Marriott’s direction on the main road in Frigate Bay between the second and third roundabout and P9129 was travelling in the opposite direction.

“As they got in the vicinity of the junction of the road that leads to Buddies Bar and Grill, both vehicles collided head-on. The front of both vehicles were damaged and Mr. Phillip sustained minor bruises while Mr. Astaphan did not complain of any injuries,” Henry said.

He also said that a unit from the Emergency Medical services responded and treated Phillip at the scene, but no one was taken to the hospital.

“Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and it was noted that the airbags in both vehicles were deployed, and this may have been the factor which contributed to them not sustaining serious injuries.

“The Traffic Department therefore continues to appeal to motorists to wear their seatbelts, as seatbelts save lives,” Inspector Henry added.
