15 drivers convicted for traffic offences

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE wheels of justice continued turning throughout the past couple of weeks, resulting in convictions being recorded at the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court of persons charged with contravening the Federation’s traffic laws.

     

    On November 3, a number of people confessed to these charges and were penalised in accordance with the offences.

     

    Monkey Hill, St. Peters resident Don Davis was convicted of two counts of failing to comply with traffic signs and was fined $100 on each count. The sums were to have been paid on or before November 11, 2011.

     

    Keys Villager Elroy Stevens was fined $100 for committing a July 20, 2011 “driving off the bus route” offence. The sum was to have been paid forthwith or, if in default, serve one week at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Rodney Rodriguez of Atlantic View, Frigate Bay, for driving without insurance, was fined $1 000 which was to be paid forthwith or a two-week custodial sentence would have been imposed. The offence was committed on October 19, 2011.

     

    For driving without due care and attention, Arman Behloud of Suncrest, Bird Rock was fined $300. The offence was committed on October 8, 2011.

     

    Confessing to committing the October 18, 2011 offences of driving without insurance and driving without a driver’s licence, Yasir Mahmood of Halfmoon Bay was fined $1 000 on the first count and $500 on the second one.

     

    Darren Dorson of Verchilds was fined $350 for exceeding the speed limit while a like penalty was imposed on Mary Walters of Gillard’s Housing for the a similar offence. The first was committed on April 8, 2011 and the latter on June 10, 2011.

     

    Edmund Obrien of Tabernacle and Oatis French of Saddlers were convicted of separate counts of driving off the bus route, while Calvert Clarke of Tabernacle was convicted of two counts of that offence. They were each fined $100 for committing the offences.

     

    A $450 fine was imposed on Milciodes Guerrero of Newtown for exceeding the speed limit on April 15, 2011.

     

    Curt Locas of Ponds Pasture – who was convicted of driving without insurance, driving without a driver’s licence and driving without due care and attention – was issued a word caution by the court.

     

    Two individuals were brought before the court on November 10 for trial and were convicted of the charges brought against them.

     

    They are Glenford Percival of New Road and Jamar Wilkin of New Pond Site.

     

    Percival was fined $250 for driving without a driver’s licence, $750 for driving without insurance and for taking vehicle without consent of the owner and was cautioned for driving without due care and attention.

     

    Wilkin was fined $250 for driving without a licence, $750 for driving without insurance and, he too, was cautioned for driving an unlicenced vehicle.

     

    Convicted on November 17, Luis Mills of Tabernacle was fined $200 for driving off the bus route and Craig Murray was cautioned for driving without due care and attention. The two offences were committed on March 8, 2011 and May 27, 2011 respectively.

     

    All matters were presided over by Her Worship Josephine Mallelieu-Webbe.
