    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, November 23rd, 2011  – The Ministry of Communications and Works has confirmed that works on the National Sewerage Project is progressing smoothly.

     

    So far, Phase I of the project is completed; 90 percent of Phase II is completed and plans to forge ahead with Phase III and Phase I of the Road Town construction work is in progress.According to reports received by the ministry from CBE Engineering Associates Limited, the agency responsible for management, engineering and construction supervision services for the national sewerage project, works are progressing at a timely pace.

     

    Deputy Secretary and Desk Officer Mr. Gary Penn updated the Department of Information and Public Relations on the status of the project stating, “To date the engineering review of existing design for East End and Long Look is completed.”

     

    He explained that the East End force main and collection system from Chapel Hill to Long Swamp is approximately 68 percent completed. The Long Look building connection programme and Road Town gravity collection system rehabilitation programme are 50 percent completed and the Road Town video inspection of collection lines are 12 percent completed.

     

    Mr. Gary Penn reported that he is extremely happy to see that the much needed sewerage for the East End/Long Look area is progressing well. He said they are now finalising plans for the pumping stations and force mains to convey the sewage to the proposed treatment site at Paraquita Bay.

     


    In commenting on the Road Town portion of the National Sewerage Project, Mr. Penn added "I am also very happy to see that efforts addressing the sewerage issues have now reached a point where corrective works on the ground look imminent."

     

    The ministry is now in the process of organising public meetings to address concerns about the commencement of the Road Town portion of the National Sewerage Project. Also, Bill of quantities are currently being reviewed by ministry officials for Phase III of the project.

     

    The Ministry of Communications and Works is working diligently to ensure the continued development of the Territory’s public infrastructure.
