BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 24th 2011 - On Tuesday, 22nd November, 2011, schools in the Basseterre Private Zone competed in SCASPA’s third semi-final Best in Class quiz competition. The competition brought together participants from the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School, Seventh-day Adventist and the George Moody Stuart Primary Schools. Sarai Hutchinson and James Hanley represented the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School, April Burt and Sonrisa Watts were the participants for the Seventh-day Adventist Primary School and Alesksei Burroughs and Zhariyon Clarke represented the George Moody Stuart Primary School.
Participants were quizzed on the subject areas of Mathematics, Social Studies, English and Science and SCASPA Affairs. In the end, the Seventh-day Adventist Primary School won the competition with a score of eighty-five (85) points. The George Moody Stuart Primary School finished in second place with a total score of sixty (60) points and the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School followed in third position with a total score of forty-five (45) points.
Sarai Hutchinson from the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School emerged as the Most Outstanding Student of the evening with a score of forty-five (45) points.
Judges for the evening were Principal of the Basseterre High School, Mrs. Carlene Henry-Morton, Taxi Operator, Mr. Clement Williams and Broadcast Journalist, Ms. Jacqueline Bryan. Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Customs and Excise Department, Mr. Larry Vaughan served as the Moderator for the competition.
The Seventh-day Adventist Primary School will join the Beach Allen and Joshua Obadiah Primary Schools in the finals of the Best in Class Quiz Competition on Thursday, 1st December, 2011 at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.
Primary Schools from the West Zone (Sandy Point, Dieppe Bay, Newton Ground, Tyrell Williams, Bronte Welsh and St. Paul’s Primary Schools) will compete on Tuesday, 29th November at 6: 00 p.m. at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.
