‘Let’s Laugh Again’ encores this weekend

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER receiving rave reviews and having been sold out during its last production, ‘Let’s Laugh Again’ - a National Players Theatre Movement presentation – will be encored this weekend.

Last held on October 22 and 23, 2011, the production is an amalgamation of four one-act comedy plays which – according to co-playwright and producer, Clement ‘Bouncing’ Williams – would provide “two hours plus of down-pack comedy”.

In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Williams, a long-standing creative arts enthusiast, explained that having been retired from the creative arts for 10 years, he was coerced by his daughter and her friends into reentering and he thought that a comedy would be befitting the occasion.

With two of the plays written by Williams, he indicated that the others were penned by his good friend of Trinidad, Freddie Kissoon. And the four plays presented under the ‘Let’s Laugh Again’ umbrella are a recipe for fun, laugher and enjoyment.

At least, this is according to the some of the patrons of the last production with whom SKNVibes came into contact.

SKNVibes understands that the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium – the venue for the last production – saw a 100 percent turnout (with some having to be denied access for lack of seating) on the first night and an approximate 98 percent on the final one.

The production will be held there again on November 26 and 27 and tickets are being sold at $20 each. The curtains are expected to open at 8:00 nightly.

As an added attraction, a matinee will be held for the younger audience on Saturday beginning at 4:30p.m. A $10 price has been attached to each ticket for that performance and – according to Williams – a special package could be designed for schools of youth groups wishing to attend.

He also indicated that transportation to and from the event would be provided.

“One of the things that we are doing during this run of the production is that we are having a Saturday afternoon matinee which is targeting the youngsters. Many people are calling to write literature and to write about plays and they have never seen a proper play produced. They have seen at the cinema, they have seen productions in theatre, on film and on television, but to see live people acting in a proper play, it brings something to them that might not be recognisable from the film or the television.

“We are hoping that we would have a good response. If schools or any youth group want to call us and make a deal, we are up to it. If they want a 10, 15, maybe up to a 20 percent discount for tickets for the school or youth group, we can honour that, but it has to be done early. Tangerine Safari would be providing transportation from the National Museum and the Fire Station to take persons to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. Transportation from the event will also be provided.”

With the second production of ‘Let’s Laugh Again’ rapidlyly approaching, Williams suggested that an additional production would be put on “once the public asks for it”.
