ROADTOWN Tortola BVI November 25th, 2011 – The Ministry of Communications and Works is continuing with the Road Town Rehabilitation project by cleaning up Wickham’s Cay, the site adjacent to the Central Administration Building and cruise pier.

“I had an opportunity to view the area while aboard the inaugural call of the Mein Schiff 2 and was amazed to see the tainted view of the grounds through the eyes of a tourist.

I saw trailers, pallets, chassis, building material and trash,” Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark Vanterpool told the Department of Information and Public Relations.

Although we are aware of the fact that some of the property is privately owned, we are still planning on making improvements to enhance the beauty of the area.

According to the Minister, the first order of business is to remove all the old trailers and chassis, derelict and abandoned vehicles that have been stored on the site. All the pallets and construction material will also be removed and stored at the Vinomar site in Port Purcell.

“Once we clear the area we will look into grading the surface and beautifying the compound as we continue our rehabilitation project to enhance the beauty of our capital,” Minister Vanterpool affirmed.

Once completed the minister expects that the area will have a park-like ambiance where the roads will be clearly demarked, a scenic spot where people can enjoy a tranquil lunch and an area that will help boost our image to tourists birthing at the nearby pier.
