By: Nordia Demming, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AND they are off! The Carnival bands have started releasing their albums for this year’s Sugar Mas Celebration. ‘The sweetest band in the world’ - Small Axe Band released their album last night (Nov. 28) at 10:00p.m. on Freedom FM.

‘One step ahead’ is the name of the album released by the Small Axe Band last night.

Just as the album’s cover said, they were indeed ahead as the Small Axe band is the first band to release its album for this year’s Carnival Celebration.

The album comprised of 10 songs composed and musically arranged by Kelvin ‘Ras Kelly’ Kelly and Maurice ‘EK’ Flanders.

Last night, the band members visited Leslie ‘Sugar Bowl’ Morton at the Freedom FM studio to air their album where they were able to explain the true meaning behind their listed tracks.

A song entitled, ‘Thanks DJ’ paid homage to the DJ’s in St. Kitts who constantly support and play Small Axe band’s music.

Dj’s such as Chico, Sugar Bowl, Sweet Sista Sensia and DJ Rucas were just a few of the DJ’s mentioned by the Band.

Other pumped tracks were ‘High’, ‘Riding hood’ and ‘Jockey.’

Just when listeners thought the band’s releases came to an end, they quickly called in as they realised that the famous hit song that has been blazing the atmosphere - ‘Soap Drop’-  was not being aired.

A moment after the said bombshell was released.

The track, ‘Soap Drop’ is one of many favourites but has been causing some controversy for the past weeks.

Nevertheless, the Band’s fans were elated about the release and congratulated members on a job well done.

This has been Small Axe band’s 36th album.

Other bands such as the Nu Vybes Band International, the Grand Masters, Kollision and Lights Out Band are yet to release their albums for Sugar mas 2011/2012.
