    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 1st 2011 - A wide range of age, skill and experience, brought great excitement to many supporters over the last three months when Netball Teams from the rural areas of Trinity in the east to Saddlers in the west, competed in a series of matches at the Sandy Point Hard Court.  The young Humming Birdsdisplayed courage and grit while the mature “Freedom FM Parakeets 1” showed some skill but lacked stamina.  OD Brisbane Lady Falcons, Newton GroundN.G. Steppers, TDC Fig Tree Warriors and Freedom FM Parakeets 2,  all played their part but could not make the final three.

     

    The unstoppable St. Paul’s Team proved too much for the other competitors and won the tournament unbeaten. Saddlers Soya came in a close second, beaten only by St. Pauls while Trinity St. Thomas placed third. The elated captain(ShamadaMulraine) of the winning team congratulated the organizers and hopesthat the tournament will continue and become bigger and better. One member of the youngest team said “I was glad for the experience and will play again, we did win one game.” In general players felt that the league was good and that they will play again.

     

    At a short but important closing ceremony on Saturday November 19th 2011, Ms.Dorita Lewis and her management team were highly commended for the effort in reviving competitive netball in the community. Special thanks went out to one of the leading groups in Sandy Point; the Community Improvement and Personal Empowerment Organization (CIPEO), which assisted the tournament by providing assistance in management and arranged for joint sponsorship with Eye care for the League. Mention was also made of API Harowe, Admiral Enterprises, and Leroy “littol” Benjamin for their tangible contributions.

     

    The management Committee publicly thanks the sponsors of the League – Eye care /CIPEO; the general public for its support, the Umpires for their commitment, the teams for participating, and all others who assisted to make the tournament the success it was.
