Press Release

Basseterre St.KIitts, November 30th,  2011  – Recently, a different uniform was witnessed at the St Kitts Marriott Resort when the Resort played host to 30 hospitality students from the Advanced Vocational Educational Center (AVEC).

The school was invited as part of our Spirit to Serve the Community program and as one of our annual commitments towards Tourism Awareness month. The program is geared towards encouraging the Federation’s youth or future hospitality executives into considering the hospitality industry as a viable future career choice.

The trip commenced with an introduction to The Marriott Cooperation, followed by The St Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino and Customer Service overview. Then the Executive Committee was invited to speak to the group about their position and background within the company.

Their orientation continued with a Heart of the House visit. Students were given up close and personal knowledge of the daily operations of Human Resources, Finance, Housekeeping, Laundry and the Main Kitchen.

There was a break for lunch provided by the resort, then the tour continued with the Front of the House operations. AVEC’s students were keen on learning all they can about this industry, and what contributions they could make.  Their many individual questions centered on the types of career opportunities that are offered in this industry.

Marriott International has a proud tradition of supporting the cities, towns and neighborhoods around the globe that it calls home. “Spirit to Serve” is an intensely hands-on philosophy, is based on a 75 year legacy of supporting the communities where it does business through Education.
