BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 1st 2011 – The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) has announced that it will commence an island-wide Meter Audit in order to ensure information accuracy and technical integrity of its systems.
According to Chief Executive Officer William Brooks, the Meter Audit is scheduled to commence during the week of December 5th and will apply to all commercial and residential customers. “Our customers’ safety is important to us. There are approximately 18,000 meters and each one needs to be checked for proper installation. We also need to make note of where, on properties, meters are located; we are also going to update our customer information database so that we can have the most up to date information in our system,” Mr. Brooks stated.
“Our customers are important to us and we want to make sure that customers are being billed properly and if there are any faulty meters, that they be replaced immediately. A similar exercise has been ongoing in another regional territory since the middle of 2009 and after two years 36% of the approximately 12,000 meters there are still to be checked, so this process is going to take some time.”
Mr. Brooks further disclosed that the audit will begin for its customers at the South East Peninsula, then work its way around the island via Cayon and end in Basseterre.
