BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PATRONS attending the Soca Monarch semi-finals tonight are asked to bring their rags, bring their flags and oil their waistline because tonight is just the start of non-stop mas and partying at Carnival Village!
As it was previously announced this year’s soca monarch competition will feature two categories and some of the Federation’s best soca artistes will be competing tonight to make the finals on December 23.
The action kicks off at 8:00 p.m. with the Groovy category and the lineup for that segment is 1-Gharlic -‘Stock Taking’; 2-Cinnamon-‘Let the rain fall down’; 3-C-Money-‘Wine your Body for me’; 4-X-man-‘Only One Night’; 5-Dime Piece-‘Hypnotize Me’; 6-Shakki-‘Plenty-Plenty’; 7-Konris-‘Party Long’; 8-Nickhail Rogers-‘Wine on Me’; 9-Anastasia-‘Nobody Else’; 10-Sha-Angel-‘Just Wine’; 11-Ali-Dee-‘With or Without You’ and 12-Masud Sadiki-‘You Make Your Clothes Look Good’.
The order of performances for the Power category is as follows; 1-Contenda- ‘Tonight’; 2-Masud Sadiki- ‘Party Hearty’; 3-X-man-‘Work with what you Got’; 4-Mighty Chapel-‘Find U Class’, 5- Fantastic Tunda- ‘Bite and Roll’; 6-Cinnamon- ‘Unity Jam’; 7-Anastasia-‘Ar We Ting’; 8-Kibianne- ‘Fluffy Anthem’; 9-Ali-Dee- ‘Rock D Nation’; 10- Shakki- ‘We Loosing It’; 11-Mighty Honesty-‘Sing Stupidness’; 12-Sha-Angel-‘Sweetness’; 13-Dime Piece- ‘We Ready’; 14- Mr. World-‘D Soap Drop’; 15-Ras Kelly- ‘Sky is the Limit’;16-Takeover-‘Insane’.
According to the chairman of the Soca Monarch, Dwayne Sturge, out of the 12 persons in the Groovy segment eight will advance to the finals while 10 will advance in the Power category from a field of 16.
Sturge also said that the 10 in the Power category will come against last year’s soca monarch, King Konris.
Through a promotion a semi-finalist can make it into the finals if he was not one of the original ten selectees. This can be done via a text promotion said Sturge and more information on that will be released after the semi-finals.
Sturge said there will be a week where persons can vote via texting the name of the artiste who they feel should be in the finals and the person with the most votes will advance to the finals.
