Woman Police Sergeant Diana exits her vehicle to enquire of Manners’ condition
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE police officer involved in last Thursday’s Fort Street traffic accident said she was not at fault as the motorcyclist claimed and is being supported by three witnesses.

One day after the publication of the accident, Woman Police Sergeant Diana Mills of Sandy Point contacted SKNVibes to give her side of the story.

This media house however apologised to the Sergeant for only publishing the motorcyclist’s statement, and explained that her immediate departure from the scene after speaking to the traffic policeman was the reason for not obtaining a statement.

Mills said she was travelling along Fort Street in the same direction with motorcyclist Antonio Manners when she heard a loud sound at the back of her car on approaching Central Street at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17.

“I was driving up Fort Street on the left hand side of the road in my vehicle PA432. The motorcycle was driving up the same street but it was in the middle of the road as I drove past it. Shortly after passing the
Antonio Manners shortly after the collision on Fort Street
motorcyclist I heard a loud sound at the back of my car.

“On looking in the rear view mirror I saw the motorcycle and its driver on the ground. I stopped my car on the same left side of the road and after exiting it I checked with the fallen driver to find out if he was alright. I asked this of him and he replied in the affirmative…he also enquired of my condition,” Mills said.

Mills said she subsequently dialed 911, reported the accident and shortly thereafter a traffic policeman arrived on the scene and conducted an investigation into the matter.

She explained that the door to the trunk and the right rear side of her car were damaged.

According to eyewitnesses account, the motorcyclist was looking to his rear while driving the motorcycle when the accident occurred. The names and telephone numbers of the eyewitnesses were submitted to the police, which was confirmed by this media house.

Mills claimed that it was the first time she’s been involved in a traffic accident since acquiring her driver’s license some 18 years ago.

~~Adz:Left~~ At about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday last, Mills, while driving along Fort Street, collided with a Honda NX250 motorcycle at the junction of Fort and Central Streets. The motorcycle [9147] is owned and was driven by Antonio Manners of Ponds Extension, Newtown.

Manners told SKNVibes that while driving along Fort Street and he was about to make a left turn into Central Street, a motorcar overtook him on the left and collided with his motorcycle.

Manners said he was approximately 40 feet from the corner when he indicated that he was about to turn and was struck by the car, which caused him to fall with the motorcycle on the centre of Fort Street.

Although it could have been ridden, the motorcycle’s handle was bent and a number of parts were damaged including the mirror, gear site, side ‘fearing’ and front head ‘fearing’.
