BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE news of the passing of Dwayne Sturge shocked family and friends in the wee hours of the morning (Dec. 4). It was hard to believe that a son, brother, father, coach and friend who had shown no sign of illness could pass away so suddenly.

Many are still in shock and are at a loss for words.

News reaching SKNVibes simply stated that the architect had passed away and no cause of death was given at this time.

Sturge is originally from the Newtown community, and was described as a hardworking and dedicated individual who was enthusiastic and excited about the projects with which he got involved.

In addition to being a part of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival committee with responsibility for the Soca Monarch Show, he was also the coach for the Horsfords Ghetto Roots Basketball Team and was assistant secretary on the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association executive.

According to a release from the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival committee, Sturge worked tirelessly and was instrumental in the preparation and organization of the Beaumont Park Soca Monarch competition, “..and in the enthusiasm generated in the competition which resulted in over 40 artistes being registered to compete for the crowns."

At only 37 years old, Dwayne was full of potential and the loss brought about by his untimely death will be immeasurable, not only to his family and numerous friends but also to National Carnival.

“The members of the National Carnival Committee, stakeholders, artistes and other participants of National Carnival mourn Dwayne's passing and will ensure that his memory is celebrated. The Beaumont Park Soca Monarch Finals on Friday December 23rd will be presented in his honour,” the release stated.

The St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association stated that SKABA and the entire basketball and sports fraternity mourns the loss of Sturge who was also a former basketball player.

SKNVibes wishes to send condolences to the Sports and Carnival fraternities as well as to his dear family and friends.
