BASSETERRE, St.Kitts: The manhunt which was mounted with the hope of capturing murder suspect Wycliffe Liburd ended when the wanted man turned himself over to the authorities earlier this morning.
Liburd was wanted by police in relation to the murder of 32-year-old Charles Benjamin Matthew alias ‘Abaloo’ who was gunned down sometime after 11:00 on Friday morning at the junction of Shaw Avenue and Cunningham Street.
Head of the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Office, Inspector Cromwell Henry confirmed to SKNVibes.com that the suspect had indeed surrendered himself at about 8:45 a.m. at the Basseterre Police Station. Liburd was reportedly accompanied by a family member and a friend.
Henry also informed that Liburd has since been “arrested on suspicion of murder” and is currently being questioned in relation to the incident.
Sometime after 10:00 last evening, SKNVibes.com was alerted of the presence of the Strike Force and the Special Services Unit (SSU) in the area of The Gardens, Irishtown. Investigations revealed that the security units received information that Liburd may have been staying in one of the apartments there. ~~Adz:Right~~
After surrounding the area, the units reportedly searched the area and one apartment in particular, but left after they could not find the murder suspect.
A number of other persons, according to police sources, are currently in custody and have also been “arrested on suspicion of murder” and are assisting with the investigations.
As investigations into the daring slaying continue, authorities await the results of Matthew’s autopsy which should determine the cause of death.
