BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Circus came alive last evening (Dec. 5) as persons flocked the area to witness the kick off of ‘In the Spirit of Christmas’.

The annual event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, saw a wide array of performances by Churches and musical groups all coming together to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

The show opened with a performance by Hands of Praise doing a very dramatic dance to the song ‘Now Behold the Lamb’, creating a rich smooth ambience for the night.

The Hope Chapel Chimers added a hint of the classics with the dings and dongs of their musical instruments.
Mikayla Harris of the Youth Outreach Dance Ministry captured the attention of the audience with an intense dance recital of "A Christmas Gift", which dramatized  a story about receiving a pair of shoes from her mother as a present for the Christmas.

The Early Childhood Social Group set the stage for the night with a performance that caused more than just feet tapping with their melodious rendition of "Jingle Jingle", and "Three Ships". The group received roaring applause as the audience screamed encore, and they satisfied the audience with another round.

The contestants that will be vying for the title of Miss National Carnival Queen demonstrated that they are more than just beautiful faces when they sang a harmonious tune to "Oh Holy Night".

Desi Browne did an incredible job in her dance number. Her performance of a child wanting to purchase a pair of shoes for his terminal mother "just in case mommy goes to meet Jesus tonight" tugged at the audience's heart.

The Talented Teen Contestants put a little twist in the programme with a rendition about violence against children and women with a poem called "Stop the Violence". They left a message with everyone in attendance - "the good you do for others is the good you do yourself".

New Birth Gospel Tabernacle Choir did their thing, singing a tuneful "Emmanuel" that had the audience clapping and singing along. Another roaring applause was given with screams of encore causing them to return to the stage to give another selection.

The Fire Brand dancers also of the New Birth Gospel Tabernacle brought the house down with "I Am". This amazing performance also had the crowd asking for more.

The fun and excitement continues tonight (Dec. 6), same time, same place with performances by a number of church organizations including the Antioch Baptist Church Choir. Come on out and celebrate the true reason for the season!
