SKABA Mourns

Late SKABA Administrator Dwayne Sturge
Press Release

    BASSETERRE St.Kitts, December 7th, 2011 -- “The St.Kitts Amateur Basketball Association and the entire basketball deeply regrets and mourns the loss of Mr. Dwayne Sturge.”

     

    These were essentially the words of SKABA on the passing of Dwayne Sturge. At the time of his untimely passing over the weekend Sturge was serving as Assistant General Secretary of the association as well as the Head Coach of the Ghetto Roots Basketball Club. Dwayne was also a  former SKABA player for the Ghetto Roots Club .

     

    According to President Romel Tobias the loss of Dwayne is a tremendous loss to the association.
    "Words really cannot express the feelings of the SKABA and the basketball fraternity at this moment as we have lost a young vibrant basketball administrator," said Romel Tobias SKABA President.

     

    "His passing is a tremendous loss to the association and the entire basketball fraternity. I want to on behalf of the SKABA as well as on my own behalf to express to the family and friends of Dwayne our deepest condolences and wish them God's guidance in this time of bereavement. May Dwaynes soul rest in eternal peace," Tobias Continued

     

    Sturge was also remembered by his club the Ghetto Roots. The club issued a statement on the passing of Sturge .

     

    The Statement read "We sadly have to announce the untimely passing of our Coach, mentor, brother, teammate Dwayne Sturge.

     

    Words cannot begin to express how deeply saddened our club is about this sad event. Dwayne will be deeply missed.

     

    We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his friends and family.
    Rest in Peace Coach."

     

    Ghetto Roots Manager Wallis Wilkin praised Sturge for his contribution to the Ghetto Roots Club and to basketball and sports on a whole.

     

    "Dwayne's contribution, dedication and committment to the development of the Ghetto Roots Club over the years both as a player and an administrator is immeasurable. Over the last 3 years when he became intimately involved with the administration of the Ghetto Roots Club he single handidly Coached and mentored essentially 4 teams and over 100 players.

     

    His passion for basketball, the Ghetto Roots Club and sports in general was always evident in his tireless pursuit of ensuring the development of the sport of both basketball and football in his community of Newtown. He was loved by all and his passing will leave a void that frankly can never be adequately filled.

     

    On behalf of myself and the Ghetto Roots Club i want to express my profound sympathy and condolences to Dwaynes family, his son in particular, his friends and colleague's and wish them all God’s blessings at this time. May his soul rest in peace."
