Business Update - Pilots take a stand!

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WHILE some businesses battle with last minute preparations for Christmas day which is fast approaching, LIAT (1974) Ltd., last week, battled with a sick-out that was 'put on' by their pilots.

     

    This industrial action started on Tuesday (Dec. 6), one day after the Company terminated its employment relationship with Captain Michael Blackburn, Chairman of the Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA).

     

    The manner in which the matter was handled is stated to be at the heart of the pilots' industrial action.
    On that note, SKNVibes brings to you, the business readers, an update on what is happening this week in the business arena.

     

    DIGICEL - Digicel Eastern Caribbean was recently awarded Approved Employer status for the Professional Development stream of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants  (ACCA)’s Approved Employer Programme. Attainment of Approved Employer status is a reflection of the support provided for the continuing professional development needs of its staff.

     

    December 2, Digicel celebrated their sixth anniversary and rewarded their customers throughout the day as they celebrated. The day began with an ‘Early Bird Anniversary Sale’ at the Digicel stores in Basseterre & Charlestown lasting from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. There were deals on selected handsets such as BlackBerry Smart Phones, Samsung and Nokia devices starting as low as $49.

     

    Prepaid customers were rewarded with $6 bonus credit on their first top up of the day, while Digicel postpaid customers who paid their bill on that date received a 6% rebate on their next bill.

     

    Members of the ‘Digicel Dream Team’ greeted customers with a sweet treat as they entered the stores. Customers were also randomly selected to take part in the Digi Dip to win Digicel-branded merchandise.

     

    TDC – On Saturday, Dec. 10, the City Drug Store (CDS) thanked customers for their continued patronage with a Customer Appreciation Day. Consumers who visited the store enjoyed a  store-wide sale of 20% discount, a shopper’s coupon, and in-store giveaways.

     

    Every Wednesday starting (Dec. 7) the City Drug Store (CDS) will be having “WOW” Wednesdays with a reduction of up to 20 percent off of everything in the store. Some restrictions apply.

     

    CDS also has its ongoing free Blood Pressure and Blood Glucose testing where persons can come in to the store and request a test. Counseling is also done where necessary.

     

    The CDS Copy Centre is having markdowns on wide format printing. Consumers will enjoy 15 percent price cut on handouts, posters, flyers, and banners, and much more.

     

    The Business Equipment Division continues its “Furniture Fest” with huge discounts on selected items of office furniture – desks, chairs, work stations, safes, bookcases, and filing cabinets among others.

     

    A computer package is also up for grabs. Patrons can trade in their old computer and get EC$500 off of their new desktop package. The package includes a Lenovo Desktop, DVD writer, Dual Core Processor, HD Graphics, 500gb Hardrive, 19” Acer Monitor, Klipx 2.1 speakers, task chair, webcam, computer desk, Canon MP 495 multi function printer. Offers end December 31.

     

    LIME – This Christmas, LIME is offering a lifetime of free services to 21 extremely lucky persons. The telecommunications company will be giving twenty individuals one of the following services – landline, mobile or internet free for forty years.

     

    Four persons will win landline service; eight will win free internet service while another eight will win free mobile service. In addition to these prizes, LIME will also be giving a grand prize to one very lucky person who will win all three services absolutely free also for the next forty years.

     

    Customers who top-up $10 or more, purchase a mobile phone, sign-up for LIME post-paid service, upgrade any existing mobile or internet service, or pay their post-paid or landline bill on time and in full will automatically be entered for a chance to win.
