BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 12th 2011
    – CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank has named Mr Eric Evelyn as the St Kitts and Nevis 2011 Unsung Hero.

Mr Gerard Pereira, Local Unsung Heroes Coordinator announced the Award during a poignant ceremony at the Four Seasons Resort on Nevis.

In announcing the Award, Mr Pereira acknowledged that Mr. Evelyn was one of the major pillars of the Nevisian community, noting that his involvement in the lives of his fellow villagers, epitomized community leadership at its best. Mr. Pereira observed that the local hero has also demonstrated true community spirit through his involvement in community activity, ranging from spearheading clean up and beautification campaigns in his community, to involvement in sports and with the youth, to his caring for the elderly.

Country Manager, Mr G Peter Edmunds reiterated the bank’s commitment to keeping the spirit of the Unsung Heroes Programme alive. He stated that the bank, as the largest financial institution in the English-speaking Caribbean, was keenly aware of its responsibility to nurture the communities within which it operated. This it did by recognizing and encouraging good people to continue with their good works.

Mr Edmunds presented the Award, a personal gift and a cheque for US$6,000.00 to Mr Evelyn.

The Ceremony concluded with a poetry tribute by members of the Empire Sports Club.

The Unsung Heroes Programme was launched on 13 October 2003 with the aim of finding and acknowledging those ordinary persons in Caribbean Communities who go about their good works without consideration for reward or acclaim. It has become the bank’s premier activity in community relations throughout the region.
